Lepidocyrtus labyrinthi(sic) from Spain
After Baquero E & al., 2021 Fig.8D
Remark by Baquero, E., Jordana, R. & Ortuno, V.M. 2021:58: 'ETYMOLOGY. - The specific epithet "labyrinthus"(sic) (of the labyrinth), refers to the presence of this species in the underground crack network of the mesovoid shallow substratum.'
Remark by Janssens, F. 2021.01.28, 2024.07.26: The etymology refers in error to "labyrinthus" (iso to "labyrinthi") as the specific epithet. In addition it refers in error to '(of the labyrinth)' for the meaning of "labyrinthus". It is clear that the authors wanted the new name to refer to the 'Lepidocyrtus that was present in the labyrinths of the mesovoid shallow substratum'. However the new name 'labyrinthi' does not match the etymology given it refers to the 'Lepidocyrtus of a single (hence particular) labyrinth' (cfr the genetive case singular form), not to the 'Lepidocytus of the underground labyrinths in general' as intended. This mismatch is clear evidence of an inadvertent error that must be corrected (Art.32.5.1). In analogy with 'stalagmitorum' ('of the stalagmites'), or 'muscorum' ('of the mosses'), the name 'labyrinthorum' refers to 'of the labyrinths' in line with the etymology.

Lepidocyrtus purgatori(sic) from Spain
After Baquero E & al., 2021 Fig.8E
Remark by Janssens, F. 2021.01.28: According to the etymology, it was the intention of the authors that the new name refers to the 'Lepidocyrtus which was found in a place called the Cascada de El Purgatorio' or shorter the 'Lepidocyrtus from El Purgatorio'. However the new name 'purgatori' does not match the etymology given it refers to the 'Lepidocyrtus of the purgatory' in genetive case, not to 'from El Purgatorio' as intended. This mismatch is clear evidence of an inadvertent error that must be corrected (Art.32.5.1). In analogy with 'guadarramensis' 'from (Sierra de) Guadarrama', or 'penalarensis' 'from the Peñalara massif', the name 'purgatoriensis' refers to 'from a place (El) Purgatorio' in line with the etymology.

Species milagrosae Mateos E in Mateos, E et Alvarez-Presas, M, 2022:466

Lepidocyrtus milagrosae from Greece
After Mateos E & Alvarez-Presas M, 2022 Fig.24
Remark by Janssens, F. 2022.02.26: According to the etymology the new species is "named after author's wife Milagros (in apposition)". However, 'milagrosae' refers to the genitive case of a female person with name 'Milagros' not to 'Milagros' in apposition. The new name 'milagrosae' does not match the etymology. This mismatch is clear evidence of an inadvertent error that must be corrected (Art.32.5.1). However, the new name does refer to the author's wife in genitive case as recommended by the ICZN. So no nomenclatural action has to be taken despite of the mismatch with the etymology.

Remark by Janssens, F. 2021.03.27: The name Lepidocyrtus americanus is preoccupied by Lepidocyrtus americanus Marlatt, 1896. That makes Lepidocyrtus americanus Cipola & Bellini, 2018 a junior primary homonym of Lepidocyrtus americanus Marlatt, 1896 (Art.53, Art.57.2) that should be rejected and replaced by a new substitute name (Art.60).

Remark by Jordana, R. & Baquero, E. 2007:6: P. bachae and P. gajui can be differentiated only by the shape of the tenent hair of the tibiotarsus (Luciáñez & Simón, 1994). In our opinion these two species are the same because, in addition, P. gajui has been described using only one specimen from the same locality and date of P. bachae. For this reason we consider P. gajui a new synonym of P. bachae.
