Remark by Zeppelini, D., Lima, E.C.A., Brito, R.A. & Soares, G.A. 2018:5: Pararrhopalites ubiquum n.sp. comes from Latin ubique (ubiquitous), in allusion to its distribution in many caves and MSS in the iron ore mining areas in Minas Gerais State. |
Remark by Janssens, F. 2018.10.27: "ubique", in Latin, is a compound adverb of "ubi"(="where")+"que"(="any, ever") and is an invariable part of speech. Therefore, the declension "ubiquum" is invalid. However, the adjective "ubiquitous", in English, = "ubiquitus" in Latin. The latter also matches the gender of "Pararrhopalites" in line with the ICZN code. |

Remark by Janssens, F. 2022.05.27: Due to the etymology : "Tapigü is the word for horn in Kuikúru Karib, the ancient language of the indigenous people Kuikúru from 'Alto Xingú' region in central Brazil" the new name refers to 'Keratosminthurus, the horn'. Although it is not explicitly stated by the etymology, it is clear that it was the intention of the authors to reflect in the new name that the new species has a horn, as in the 'Keratosminthurus with a horn'. The mismatch between the name and the intention of the authors is clear evidence of an inadvertent error that must be corrected (Art.32.5.1). In addition, an unmodified vernacular word should not be used as a scientific name (Art.11.3 Rec.11A). Given appropriate latinization is the preferred means of formation of names from vernacular words (Rec.11A) : we propose the following emendation of the name that matches the intention of the authors: 'tapiguus' = stem 'tapigu' + latin masculine adjective suffix 'us'. |
