Remark by Deharveng, L. 1981 (cfr Greenslade, P., 2007.10.09:in litt.): This species probably belongs in the genus Pseudokatianna because it lacks the generic character of spines on the head according to the figures. |
Remark by Greenslade, P. 2007.10.09:in litt.: Taking into consideration the form of the mucro, the chaetotaxy of the dens, the slight antennal annulation and other features, the species probably is not a Pseudokatianna but may belong in Polykatianna, especially as Denis noted it had conspicuous interocular bosses. However, neither of these two genera are well defined, so the correct generic placement for this species is not possible to determine at present. |
Remark by Ellis, W.N. & Bellinger, P.F. 1973:28: Nicolet, 1847 described new species from Chile. These are also described by Nicolet in Gay, 1851[lapsus for Nicolet in Gay, 1849]. But in the first paper Nicolet cites as author of the species Nicol. in Gay. Evidently the publications appeared in a reversed order. |
Remark by Mari Mutt J.A. & Bellinger P.F. 1990:138: The genus Metakatianna houses a number of species based on first instars of species of Katianna, Sminthurinus, Pseudokatianna, etc. (Betch, 1980:12). We have listed the species of Metakatianna under Katianna but the position of many is still undetermined. |
Remark by Greenslade, P. 2013.11.19 il: However carefully you examine specimens from England and compare with published descriptions from Australia, you cannot determine species of Katianna with accuracy. The only desciptions of K. australis that exist were by Womersley in the, 1930s. His descriptions are notoriously brief and totally inadequate. We probably have over 50 undescribed species of Katianna in Australia and New Zealand, maybe more. Womersley's description of K. australis could apply to many of them. |
Remark by ICZN. 2007:759: Placed on the Official List of Names in Zoology. Opinion 1027. |
